Q. What is the difference between the former AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate (ADC) and the new AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate (ADF)?

A. AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate, ADF, is totally new technology and different than our previous product, ADC, in several facets.

This new diesel fuel additive provides greater wear protection through additional lubricity additives to protect fuel pumps and injectors in order to compensate for the all new federally mandated ultra low sulfur diesel fuel, referred to as ULSD, that has just come out into the marketplace and impacts all diesel engine owners. Many diesel owners do not realize how this new fuel could negatively impact their engines’ performance.

It is well known that the amount of sulfur in ULSD fuel (15 parts per million (ppm), down from 500 ppm) is insufficient to protect injectors and pumps against wear. That is why ULSD is required to contain some lubricity additive from the fuel supplier at the lowest additive concentration (LAC). Every incremental amount above the LAC the fuel supplier adds to the fuel increases its cost. Fuel suppliers have no incentive to treat fuel with neither quality additives nor extra additives. Trusting that your equipment will be protected against premature injector or pump wear is an absolute risk.

This new diesel fuel additive contains additives that neutralize acids during combustion to help maintain engine oil TBN (Total Base Number) levels and reduce acidic wear in the cylinder. Ever since 2002, diesel engines have been equipped with Exhaust Gas Re-circulation (EGR) to lower NOx emissions. In 2007, the rate of EGR will increase. Exhaust gas is acidic and causes accelerated cylinder wear and rapid oil degradation. By neutralizing acids during combustion, both engine oil TBN depletion rates and cylinder wear are reduced. Additionally, API CJ-4 imposes chemical limits that ultimately restrict the TBN level. By reducing the rate of TBN depletion, it helps engine oils work better and last longer.

This new diesel fuel additive also contains extra additives to protect against water contamination and rust. Water in the fuel system is and always has been an enemy. New AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate improves the fuel’s ability to separate from water so an emulsion is not formed. Water can be easily drained and fuel/water separator filters work better. It also is a powerful corrosion inhibitor to help prevent harmful rust in tanks and on other metal components in fuel systems. The new AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate, ADF, adds more protection in these areas.

New AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate has been tested and proven during field experiments to improve fuel economy in used diesel engines as much as 5 percent. It does this by doing a superior job of cleaning injectors and combustion chambers. This is particularly important because ULSD has shown to develop even more deposits than the previously available diesel fuel—that is higher levels of deposits on injectors, which reduces fuel consumption and operating efficiency. New AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate, ADF, performs even better in the areas of cleaning injectors and overall cylinder cleanliness for improved throttle response, horsepower and, of course, fuel economy.

New AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate stabilizes fuel. Gums and insoluble oxidation products are reduced or eliminated so fuel filters do not plug as fast and fuel in storage lasts longer.

This product is completely NEW, has to address different issues, and cannot readily be compared to our old AMSOIL product that is being discontinued. This diesel fuel additive will stand alone as a new product and be cost justified with its price and treat rates versus the benefits. As the introductory article in the "Action News" clearly demonstrated, at $3 per gallon for Diesel fuel, it would only take a 2 percent fuel economy improvement to cost justify AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate, ADF, on that feature alone, and it's been tested to provide up to 5 percent better fuel economy than untreated fuel.
